Bracknagh Tractors Run for Hooves 4 Hospice

The community of Bracknagh and surrounding areas have made an amazing contribution to the Hooves 4 Hospice project by raising the magnificent sum of €13,250.  This was achieved by organising the Bracknagh Tractor Run on October 3rd last which involved participating drivers of tractors, lorries, vintage cars and motorbike riders paying a small fee to enter this fun event.  In addition, there was a raffle with many sponsored valuable and novel prizes.

Pat Lalor Chairman of the Hooves 4 Hospice project, thanked all those who contributed to the success of the event.

He said “it is a wonderful testament to the generosity of the whole community of Bracknagh to accumulate a fund of €13,250 in one afternoon.  When the Hooves 4 Hospice project was launched in early 2020, it was mainly aimed at farmers, asking them to rear an animal for the project. It was never expected that communities and local organisations would step up to the plate and become actively involved in raising funds in their own way.  The Bracknagh Tractor Run donation is the largest sum that we have received so far from a community organisation”.

He said that “it is the enthusiasm of farmers and communities like Bracknagh that drives the Hooves 4 Hospice committee to continue this massive fundraising effort.  We already have over 560 animals in our herd and when they are sold and other fundraising initiatives completed, we hope to be well on the way to achieving our target of raising €1 million euro”.

The 4 counties region of Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath is the only area of the country without a Level 3 Regional hospice to serve the 300,000 people of the Midlands.  A Level 3 Hospice is a specially designed facility which is staffed by highly trained medical staff who take care of patients in need of palliative care.  Provision will also be made for outreach services where required.  The Hooves 4 Hospice project is run by Lions Clubs in the four counties and Tullamore Lions Club is the main organiser. If anyone wishes to help this very worthy cause, please call Gerry on 0858775477.
